'Seat on Wheels': Amazing mobility device

Honda Uni-Cub Smart Segway

It seems like every since humans learned to walk, they’ve been trying ways to figure out how not to use their legs – and they’ve been quite successful at it. We’ve had huge success with horses, trains, planes and automobiles.

However, there is one form of transportation that hasn’t really picked off and those are personal mobility devices.

Nonetheless, companies aren’t giving up. Honda today unveiled its new UNI-CUB, which it says is ‘designed for harmony with people’ The UNI-CUB features a compact design and a comfortable seating area and offers the same amount of freedom as you would get if you were walking.

“Starting in June 2012, Honda will jointly conduct demonstration testing of UNI-CUB with Japan’s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation,” Honda said in a statement. “In addition to testing the feasibility of using UNI-CUB indoors, this project will explore the practical applications of the device in a wide range of environments in Japan and other countries.”

Power for the Honda UNI-CUB comes from a small electric-motor that runs on lithium-ion battery. Top speed comes in at 3.7 mph with a maximum range of 3.7 miles.
