The Track and Field Robot That Will Outrun Usain Bolt [video]
![]() |
| Meet OutRunner, the world’s first remote-controlled robot that’s capable of outpacing the likes of Usain Bolt, the fastest man on the planet. |
Sebastien Cotton, the founder and CEO of Robotics Unlimited, spoke with Edge about the innovation and likens the design of the OutRunner to that of bipeds, “A lot of people are wondering if that is not just a wheel without the rim. My answer is not at all.
A global robot race isn’t the only thing that Cotton is hoping the OutRunner will be used for. Among other things, Cotton expressed a desire for the running robot to be used as a drone “to perform exploration missions;” as a pace keeper for joggers; and as an educational tool for youngsters or adults interested in engineering or the science behind building robots.
“Each leg of the robot is spring loaded with a very specific stiffness and damping, without that you’ll simply end up with some kind of chaotic bouncing motion,” says Cotton. “The mass and length distribution of each element of the robot are also of fundamental importance to obtain a stable running motion.”
Dinosaur Egg On Mars

| This discovery was made by Whatsupinthesky37 of Youtube and I have to admit at first glance I laughed, but in all honesty, when you look around the photo...this egg clearly does not belong there. |
Every object in the photo is rough and ridged, except this egg. It looks like a prettified egg from long ago, but also looks like ancient sea sponge thats been petrified. Either way, its a sign of life past.
I was skimming through the pictures today from the new 631 SOL and this stood out immediately. I have not seen any rocks that look like this on Mars. I figured it would be a quick little video and it ended up going over 13 minutes. We take a good look at it! Here is the link to the picture and please share it with all your friends!
Spiderwebs In Trees: Incredible Phenomenon
![]() |
| This is interesting – the first image doesn’t even look real! It looks like something out of an illustrated book... What's going on in these pictures is incredible. |
An unexpected side-effect of the flooding in parts of Pakistan has been that millions of spiders climbed up into the trees to escape the rising flood waters.
Because of the scale of the flooding and the fact that the water has taken so long to recede, many trees have become cocooned in spiders’ webs.
People in this part of Sindh have never seen this phenomenon before, but they also report that there are now less mosquito’s than they would expect, given the amount of stagnant, standing water that is around.
It is thought that the mosquito’s are getting caught in the spiders’ webs thus reducing the risk of malaria, which would be one blessing for the people of Sindh, facing so many other hardships after the floods.
World’s Deadliest Card Player Slices Fruits and Vegetables with Playing Cards
![]() |
| Bai Dengchun is a 23-year-old card-throwing artist whose lightning-fast plastic cards can slice through fruits, vegetables and eggs. |
Okay, so that wasn’t the best comparison, but the point is despite his skinny appearance, Bai Dengchun is able to throw a plastic card through a cucumber from two meters away.
Bai has been practicing his throwing card technique since he was just six years old, constantly improving his skills, and he is now able to slice through cucumbers, watermelons and eggs. His unique talents earned him a spot on China’s Got Talent, and even though he didn’t win, he got some well-deserved exposure.
While some say a plastic playing card turns into a lethal weapon in the hands of a master like Bai Dengchun, I doubt even he could actually kill a person with it. Maybe it would pierce the skin, but the structure of the human body doesn’t exactly resemble that of a cucumber.
Pink Floyd's New Music Video was shot in Chernobyl Power Station [recommend for viewing!]
![]() |
| The video became a part of this year's "The Division Bell" reissue. It was shot in notorious Ukrainian city of Pripyat, near Chernobyl Power Station. |
The music video shows the landscapes of abandoned city with the inclusions of archive footage made by Soviet cameramen before Chernobyl disaster. The man, hiding in the abandoned buildings, appears all the video long. The first part of the music video shows the footage made by International Space Station from the outer space. The video was directed by Aubrey Powell. Watch it below.
"The Division Bell" was the last studio album by Pink Floyd. It peaked the charts in both UK and US, and became Platinum three times. Most songs on the album were written by David Gilmour and Richard Wright, Nick Mason also contributed to the record.
The 47 thousand inhabitants of Pripyat left the city right after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. Now the city is situated in Chernobyl's exclusion zone.
Awesome Chinese marriage market
Grandparents walk around scouring the leaflets for those four words that separate the men from the boys,”You Che You Fang” (有车有房) literally meaning “Have car, have apartment.” This supposed criterion for marriage has come up for harsh criticism online and is considered emblematic of the increasingly materialistic nature of the new Chinese society.
To be fair, I’ve met many Chinese girls who refute this trend of looking at marriage as “a way of pulling resources” (Roseanne Lake), but their cause hasn’t been helped by Ma Nuo. When asked on a dating game show if she would go on a date with a guy on a bicycle, 20-year old Ma Nuo replied,
“I’d rather cry in a BMW than laugh on a bicycle” (宁在宝马车里哭,也不在自行车上笑)
The comment resonated with the Chinese public and caused a great deal of soul searching among traditional Chinese people. It was popular enough for our teacher to teach it to us in class along with the word “LuoHun” (裸婚) literally translated as “naked wedding”.
That’s the term for weddings where the couple does not possess the car or apartment required for a classic Chinese union.

35-foot-tall Sugary Sphinx
The artist is known for exploring issues of race, discrimination, sexual exploitation and power in her work.
The full title of the work is "A Subtlety or the Marvelous Sugar Baby an Homage to the unpaid and overworked Artisans who have refined our Sweet tastes from the cane fields to the Kitchens of the New World on the Occasion of the demolition of the Domino Sugar Refining Plant."
The head of the large sculpture wears a kerchief and has slightly exaggerated African features. Her breasts are exposed and her fists are thrust out.
Walker has described the pose as both submissive and domineering. She said in an interview with Complex Magazine that she thought of the sphinx as "this woman-like creature or guardian of the city, the keeper of the riddle, the devourer of heroes."
