Stomping through the fields and industrial wastelands of Britain, this giant six-legged walking robot is a world first, say its creators. |
Mantis is a fearsome all-terrain hexapod robot by British robotics firm Micromagic Systems. The two-tonne machine can carry a driver across varied terrain thanks to its six hydraulically-actuated legs. It can also be operated remotely via Wi-Fi. Mantis was unveiled in 2012 after a three year R&D process. Its menacing sci-fi looks are no accident—Micromagic Systems specializes in robotics and animatronics for film and television.
